SASKATOON – Two different University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored two goals each in a 6-3 victory over the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons Saturday afternoon on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.

Fifth-year Rebecca Weckworth and second-year Maya Gabruch each tallied two goals, while second-year Taneil Gay tallied two assists in the win.  Hailey Lavarias also scored two goals for the Bisons.

With the win, Saskatchewan improves to 6-3-4 and keeps a home playoff date within reach. A win in the final match of the regular season Sunday combined with a Calgary Dinos loss would secure it.

Manitoba drops to 3-7-3 and holds on to the final playoff spot.

Gabruch opened the scoring quickly in the first half tallying in the 11th minute on a quick pass from Gay.

The rest of the eight goals in the game happened in the second half.

Saskatchewan's Weckworth struck first in the 46th minute, followed by Manitoba's Florin Wagner in the same minute from the ensuing kickoff to Huskies lead in half. Gabruch struck again in the 69th minute to pull Saskatchewan ahead by one. Jennifer Miller restored the Huskies two goal lead in the 74th minute, but Lavarias scored her first of two in the 77th minute.

As was the trend, Saskatchewan answered quickly in the 82nd minute with a Kayla Ahenahew header. Lavarias added her second on a header in the 84th minute and Weckworth tallied her second in the 88th.

Jayden Steinhauer madethree saves in the win, while Justina Jarmoszko made 11 in the loss.

The Huskies will meet the Winnipeg Wesmen Sunday in the final match of the 2017-18 regular season, while Manitoba will travel to meet the Regina Cougars.
