REGINA, Sask. - The University of Regina women's soccer team surrendered a quick goal but rebounded in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw against the Saskatchewan Huskies at home on Thursday night.

Kyra Vibert scored for the Cougars while Taneil Gay countered for Saskatchewan. The Cougars had 12 shots, eight of which were on goal. The Huskies countered with 10 shots and five on target.

Saskatchewan got on the board just 1:07 into the match thanks to some quick pressure off the opening kickoff. After a minute of play in the Cougar end Leesa Eggum fed a through ball up the right wing for Gay. The second-year Regina product made no mistake, beating Ashton Lowry for her fourth goal of the season.

After what was a dominant first 20 minutes for the Huskies, the Cougars settled in and started to work their way into the Huskie zone. Brianna Wright had a solid opportunity to even the score just before half as Sydney Langen sent a pass into the box, but Wright's left-footed effort sailed high of the goal.

The Cougars continued their attack and came within inches of drawing even in the 69th minute, as a long cross from Jet Davies found Vibert in the box. Vibert deflected the ball to Langen who had a go but her shot rang off the post.

It was the first-year forward who made her mark just a few minutes later, as Wright put a shot towards the goal from the right wing. Kyleigh Vause made a diving effort to deflect the ball away but it bounced right to Vibert who put it home for her first U SPORTS goal.

The final 10 minutes were frantic for both teams, as the Huskies put four efforts towards Lowry but were unable to find the net. Gay had a quality chance in extra time to put the Huskies back on top, but her shot from the right wing hit the side of the net.

Lowry made four saves as the Cougars move to 0-4-5 on the season. Vause stopped seven Cougars shots as Saskatchewan (4-2-3) picks up their third draw of the season.

The Cougars and Huskies will square off in Saskatoon on Saturday, under the lights at Griffiths Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
