Rookie midfielder shines in women's soccer season opener

WINNIPEG, Man - First year midfielder Megan Ripplinger scored a pair of second half goals to lead the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 3-2 regular season opening victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Friday evening at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

Ripplinger scored her goals late in the contest (86'and 88'minutes). Jasmine Crump opened the scoring for the Huskies in the 55th minute.

Shae-Lynn Dodds scord her first USPORTS regular season goal of her career in the 62nd minute. Maeghan Lindsay closed out the scoring in extra time to close out the scoring.

Both teams went into the halftime break with zero's on the score board.

The Huskies (1-0-0) had 17 total shots compared to nine for the Wesmen (0-1-0).

Wesmen goalkeeper Madison Fordyce, playing in her first ever USPORTS regular season contest made seven saves for the Wesmen. Fifth year goalkeeper Kyleigh Vause made four saves for the Huskies.

The Huskies attempted eight corner kicks. Winnipeg had two in the contest.

The Huskies will take on the University of Manitoba Bisons on Saturday. Winnipeg will take on the University of Regina Cougars Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
