CALGARY - For the second straight night, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies shut out the Mount Royal Cougars, this time with a 3-0 win Saturday at the Flames Community Arenas.

With the weekend sweep, the Huskies finish the Canada West women's hockey season 19-7-2 and second in the standings. Mount Royal finishes 10-17-1 and in the final postseason spot. A night earlier, the Huskies won 1-0.

Both teams advance to the Canada West postseason. The Cougars will travel to meet the UBC Thunderbirds in a best-of-three quarter-final next weekend, while the Huskies have a bye into the semifinal and will await a winner from the quarter-final round.

The Huskies were able to control the puck in MRU's zone for the first half of the period and were able to capitalize at 9:13 when Kennedy Harris grabbed the loose puck in front of the net and slid one past Emily Severson giving Saskatchewan a 1-0 lead.

Saskatchewan would then put the game on ice 13:24 into the period when Kori Herner stole the puck at the blue line, streaked in on goal, and roofed her shot top corner past Severson.

Brooklyn Haubrich added the empty net goal at 19:55.

Jessica Vance made 20 saves in the shutout for the Huskies, while Severson stopped 21 in the loss.

The Huskies will host the semifinal series February 23-25 in Rutherford Rink.
