Bannatyne lifts women's hockey over MRU

CALGARY - Fifth-year defenceman Kira Bannatyne scored the lone goal in a 1-0 University of Saskatchewan Huskies win over the Mount Royal Cougars Friday night in  Flames Community Arenas.

Bannatyne drove down the side boards and cut in front of the net, sliding the puck through the five-hole of Zoe De Beauville.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 18-7-2 and continue to push for a top two finish in the conference standings. Mount Royal drops to 10-16-1 with the loss and remains in a fight for the final playoff spot.

Saskatchewan's goaltender Jessica Vance made 15 saves in her shutout win, her eighth of the season. De Beauville made 25 saves in the loss.

The teams meet again in the final game of the regular season Saturday. Puck drop is at 6 p.m. MT and can be viewed on canadawest.tv.
