Women's hockey uses third period to seal win over Dinos

SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies used three third period goals to defeat the University of Calgary Dinos 3-0 Friday night at Rutherford Rink.

After two scoreless periods, the Huskies scored all three goals in the final 10 minutes.

Saskatchewan's Kira Bannatyne broke the scoreless tie at 10:26 in the third period.  Kaitlin Willoughby's rebound bounced onto Bannatyne's stick, who was able to slide in to the net before Calgary goalie Kelsey Roberts was able to get back to the other side. 

Bailee Bourass gave the Huskies the two goal lead with under four minutes left in the game, scoring on a partial breakaway. She collected her own rebound and found the net from the right side at 16:07.

Kori Herner added the empty net, insurance goal at 19:32.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-2-1. Calgary drops to 1-5-1.

Despite the loss, Roberts was impressive in the net for the Dinos making 43 saves on the 46 shots she faced. Jasey Book stopped all 13 at the other end of the ice for the Huskies.

The teams meet again Saturday night in Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
