Women's basketball completes sweep of Bisons

SASKATOON –  The University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed a weekend sweep over the University of Manitoba Bisons with a dominant 101-56 win Saturday night on Ron & Jane Graham Court at the PAC.

With the pair of wins, the reigning Canada West champion Huskies open the 2017-18 women's basketball regular season 2-0. Manitoba starts at 0-2.  A night earlier, the Huskies opened the season with an 83-52 win.

Manitoba kept the contest close throughout the first quarter and even had the lead twice in the frame. Tied at nine, the Huskies went on an 8-3 run to close the quarter with a 17-12 lead.   

Saskatchewan never looked back and extended the lead to 44-25 at halftime. The dominant play continued in the second half outscoring the Bisons' 31-14 in the third and 26-17 in the fourth.

Three Bisons' finished the night scoring double digits. Nicole Konieczny and Brittanie Parisien each tallied 12 points, while Emma Thompson scored another 11. Claire Harvey led the Bisons' on the boards with four rebounds. 

Summer Masikewich led the Huskies with 27 points and finished one rebound shy of the double-double at nine. Four other Huskies finished in double-digits with Sabine Dukate scoring 12, Megan Lindquist 11 and Libby Epoch 10.

Saskatchewan shot at 55%, while Manitoba shot 36%. The Huskies also won the battle on the boards outrebounding the Bisons' 36-16. 

The Huskies enter a bye-weekend next week, while the Bisons return home to host the Regina Cougars.
