University of Saskatchewan women's cross country athlete Courtney Hufsmith and the University of Calgary's Russell Pennock crossed the finish line first at the Huskie-hosted 2017 Seld Dog Open in Victoria Park Saturday.
Hufsmith, who also won the Cougar Trot in Regina earlier this month for the Huskies, finished first in the eight-kilometre run in a time of 30.54. Dino Pennock finished the eight-kilometre race in a time of 26.04 on the men's side.
The Calgary Dinos finished first in both the men's and women's team standings with 29 and 46 points respectively. The Alberta Pandas finished second in the women's standings with 52-points, followed by the MacEwan Griffins with 102 and the Huskies at 115. The Regina Cougars finished second in the men's standings with 50 points and the Alberta Golden Bears finished third at 74.
Alberta Panda Anushree Patel finished second with a time of 32.51 and Hannah Leggatt from MacEwan clocked in at 32.57 for third place. On the men's side, Regina Cougar Adam Strueby finished second with a time of 26.18 and Golden Bears' Kieran McDonald finished third with a time of 26.32.
The Sled Dog Open is the second race on the Huskies schedule in 2017.
The Huskies race again on October 28 in the Stewart Cup in Alberta. It is the final race before the Canada West/U SPORTS Championship on November 11 hosted by the Victoria Vikes.
