Men's volleyball drops match on road

BRANDON – The Bobcat men's volleyball team served up a spectacular start to their home schedule by sweeping the Saskatchewan Huskies in front of a packed crowd at the Healthy Living Centre.

The set scores were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18.

BU fed off the energetic fan support and grabbed an early 5-1 lead. The two sides chipped away for the remainder of the first set, but the Bobcats managed to maintain the upper hand and won the opener.

In the second, Brandon set the tone by winning the first four points. The home team held a 16-12 advantage at the technical timeout before going on a 7-2 run to help seal the deal.

The third set was back and forth until BU grabbed momentum. They turned a 10-9 lead into a 17-12 advantage en route to their straight sets win.

Elliott Viles and Seth Friesen provided a 1-2 offensive punch for the Bobcats with both registering 12 kills.

Reece Dixon delivered a match-high 32 assists, while Mason Metcalf and James Weir were involved in six blocks each as BU upped their record to 2-and-1.

Dylan Mortensen, Colin Fraser and Connor Murray scored six kills apiece for the Huskies, who slipped to 0-and-3.

Saturday's rematch between Brandon and Saskatchewan starts at 6:45 p.m. at the HLC.
