Huskies Roll to Sweep Heat

SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies made quick work of the UBC Okanagan Heat Saturday night at the PAC with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-10) win.

The Huskies trailed just a handful of times throughout the match as they improved their record to 3-1. UBCO drops to 1-3 with the loss.

Tyler Epp's back-to-back aces capped off a first set run that put the Huskies up 9-4. The Heat would recover, but another late Huskie run capped off the win. UBCO led the second set 18-16 before an 11-3 Huskie explosion gave Saskatchewan the advantage going to the third. Already leading by five, the Huskies went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-8. From there, the hosts would cruise to the three set sweep.

Andrew Nelson led the Huskies with 11 kills in the match. Fifth-year Jordan Nowakowski was effective with eight kills in just 13 total attacks. Nowakowski and Troy Wiebe each dug up seven attacks.

Lars Bornemann was the offensive leader for UBCO recording 10 kills on the night. Alex Swiatlowski recorded eight digs for the Heat.

The Huskies kill percentage was above 30% in all three sets, while the Heat struggled to put points away in the match with a kill percentage over 10% in just one set.

Saskatchewan hosts the Trinity Western Spartans at the PAC next weekend. UBCO hosts the Winnipeg Wesmen in Kelowna , B.C. next weekend.
