CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team scored once in the first half and added two more in the second as they shut out the University of Saskatchewan 3-0 on Saturday at West Varsity Soccer Pitch.

Calgary (5-6-0) earned its second straight victory, and its second win at home in Canada West competition this season. Saskatchewan, coming off a bye-week, moved to 7-5-1 overall.

Dinos goalkeeper Jake Ruschkowski made six saves throughout, while Patrick Pranger recorded four saves on the other end for the Huskies. Calgary out shot Saskatchewan, 9-8, overall.

Calgary opened up the scoring in the 39th minute when rookie Jeff Spolnik notched his first tally of the season. Dominik Zuczek gained possession in Huskies territory and sent a swift pass to Spolnik, who quickly flipped a shot over the reach of Pranger for the early lead.

Coming into the second half, Zuczek swiftly made it a two-goal game in the 50th minute, when he grabbed a pass from Mark Bohdan and beat the rival goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom left side of the net.

The Huskies threatened with scoring chances of their own in the 79th and 81st minute, but neither attempt was successful. The Dinos denied Saskatchewan any chance on target the rest of the way and launched an attack of their own.

Bohdan started the play when he fired a stellar ball to Bori Falaye in the 85th minute. Fighting for position, Falaye managed to gain just enough space to blast a shot into the net from the six-yard box, for his fifth goal of the season.

Calgary won the battle for shots, 9-8, and corner kicks, 6-0. Bohdan led the team with three shots and two assists.

Calgary will return to action on Sunday when they host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at 2:15 p.m. Saskatchewan will remain on the road as they take on the Mount Royal University Cougars.
