SASKATOON – An early University of Calgary third period goal lifted the Dinos to a 2-1 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to force a deciding Game 3 in a Canada West men's hockey semifinal Friday night in Rutherford Rink.
Tied at one from the six-minute mark of the second period, Calgary's Adam Kambeitz was able to beat Huskie netminder Taran Kozun on a shot that trickled through the five-hole at 7:53 in the final frame.
With the win, Calgary tied the series at 1-1. The winner of the series advances to the Canada West Final against either the Mount Royal Cougars or Alberta Golden Bears and books a ticket to the national championship. The Huskies won Thursday's Game 1 6-4.
Chris Collins opened the scoring for the Dinos with just 46 seconds left in the first period. Collins went end-to-end before popping out from behind the net and beating Huskies' goaltender Taran Kozun over the shoulder, stick side.
Levi Cable netted the equalizer on a Jordan Papirny rebound at 6:37 in the second on the power play.
Papirny stopped 27 shots for the Dinos in the win, while Kozun made 21 saves for the Huskies.
Game 3 is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Rutherford Rink.
