Men's hockey loses in overtime in University Cup bronze

FREDERICTON, N.B. – UNB's Alexandre Goulet tallied 4:14 into overtime to lift the Varsity Reds to a 5-4 win in the University Cup bronze medal game over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Sunday. 

Goulet snuck the puck by Huskies netminder Taran Kozun on a tip in front of the net. 

Saskatchewan finishes fourth at the tournament for the second time in three years. The game was the Huskies fifth overtime game at the University Cup in the last three years.

Levi Cable opened the scoring at 6:08 in the first period on a tip from a Jordan Fransoo shot from the point. Jaimen Yakubowski extended the lead to 2-0 on a scramble in front of the net that slipped into the corner at 16:22.

Matt Murphy cut the Huskies lead in half short-handed at 19:16.

UNB took the lead in the second period with three goals in just under three minutes. Tyler Boland started the scoring at 4:29, followed by Alexandre Goulet at 6:32 and Olivier LeBlanc at 6:57.

The Huskies tied the goal at 16:47 on a Carson Stadnyk goal that was batted into the net.

UNB's Alex Dubeau made 18 saves in the win, while Kozun stopped 33 in the loss.
