Men's hockey advances to University Cup semifinal

FREDERICTON, N.B. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies advanced to a University Cup semifinal game for the third straight year after a 4-1 win over the McGill University Redman Friday night at the Aitken Centre.

Saskatchewan scored one goal in the first, another in the second and two more in the final 20 minutes to secure the win. 

The Huskies will now meet Canada West foe the Alberta Golden Bears Saturday. 

Michael Sofillas gave Saskatchewan the 1-0 lead scoring on a 5-on-3 power play at 12:42 in the first period. Sofillas received a cross-crease pass from Logan McVeigh and beat Redmen goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon over the shoulder.

Saskatchewan extended their lead to 2-0 just 1:03 into the second period when Connor Cox buried a rebound. 

McGill cut the Huskies lead in half at 17:37 in the second period with a power play goal. Antoine Dufort-Plant beat Taran Kozun on a shot that trickled through a pile of players in front of the net. 

Carson Stadnyk restored the Huskies' two goal lead at 9:58 in the third period. His shot deflected into the air and landed in the net over the head of Guindon. 

Kohl Bauml added the empty net goal at 18:55.

Kozun made 33 saves in the win for the Huskies, while Guindon made 29 saves in the loss.
