Anderson and Ishemezwe Commit to Men's Basketball Program

The University of Saskatchewan men's basketball program and head coach Barry Rawlyk are pleased to announce the addition of 6-7 guard-forward Cole Anderson and 6-3 guard Jean-Carol Ishemezwe for the 2018-19 season.

Anderson, a Saskatoon native, joins the Huskies from Aden Bowman Collegiate while Ishemezwe comes from Campbell Collegiate in Regina.

"We are very pleased to add two high character individuals like JC and Cole to our program," said Rawlyk. "Both of these young men have demonstrated a willingness apply a strong work ethic to all that is involved in becoming a successful student-athlete at this level."

"It is exciting to have been able to add a couple of players that both have outstanding potential both in the classroom and on the court. We are going to enjoy working with JC and Cole and look forward to seeing them progress into excellent U SPORTS level student-athletes."

Anderson joins the Huskies fresh off of a strong season with Aden Bowman that saw him earn the Bears' Most Valuable Player Award. He brings strong experience beyond the high school level, having competed with the Team Saskatchewan Provincial Team in 2015 and 2016 and Team Saskatchewan U19 at the 2017 North American Indigenous Games.

"Joining the Huskies means a lot to me—basketball has been a big part of my life so far, and I have grown up in Saskatoon watching the U of S Huskies play basketball," said Anderson.

"I am bringing everything I have to offer to the Huskies Men's Basketball program. Whether it is being competitive and working hard on the court, or to representing the Huskies and the University of Saskatchewan in a positive way."

Ishemezwe comes to the Huskies already an established winner, taking home the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) 5A provincial banner in 2017 before taking home the Regina High School Athletic Association (RHSAA) city title in 2018.

"I joined the Huskies because of its strong educational and basketball programs, said Ishemezwe. "Seeing the amazing campus, the coaches and the team was why decided to join this family. I'll be fortunate to learn from knowledgeable coaches and also be a part of a great group of players. I look forward growing alongside the talented players and coaches."

The Huskies begin the 2018-19 Canada West regular season on the road against the UBC Thunderbirds October 26-27 before returning to Saskatoon to face the University of Fraser Valley Cascades for home-opening weekend November 2-3.
