Men's basketball wins seventh straight

BRANDON – The Saskatchewan Huskies continued their winning ways on Saturday, bouncing the Brandon Bobcats 84-80 in Canada West men's basketball action.
 
Saskatchewan set the tone early with a 9-0 run to grab a 19-10 advantage. The Bobcats got their game in order after that and closed the gap to 25-22. The Huskies headed into the halftime break up 32-27 after a 7-2 run.
 
The Huskies caught fire from beyond the arc in the third quarter. Emmanuel Akintunde, Alex Unruh and JT Robinson recorded three consecutive three pointers to put Saskatchewan ahead 44-29. The Bobcats charged back from their 15-point deficit, but the Huskies responded late to lead 61-52 going into the fourth quarter.
 
A 10-4 run by the Bobcats to begin the final frame got them within striking distance, down 65-62. Saskatchewan quickly bounced back with nine straight points to gain a comfortable cushion down the stretch.
 
The Huskies had all five starters score in double digits with Lawrence Moore leading the way with a game-high 24 points. Joseph Barker was next with 19 as Saskatchewan extended their winning streak to seven straight. Robinson and Akintunde added 13 points apiece while Unruh rounded out the scoring with 10.
 
Tyvon Cooper collected 15 points for the Bobcats, who slipped to 8-and-10 with the loss. Jonathan Range recorded 14 points, Pookie Saunders scored 13 and Mikee Dosado delivered with 12 points off the bench.
 
Brandon will close out their regular season by visiting the Thompson Rivers WolfPack this coming weekend.
 
Meanwhile, Saskatchewan will look to continue their winning ways when they welcome provincial rival the Regina Cougars.
