Men's basketball completes sweep of TRU

SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed the weekend sweep of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack with an 80-61 win Saturday night on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the PAC.

Saskatchewan's record is now .500 on the season at 2-2. On the other side, the WolfPack will leave Saskatchewan with a 3-3 record.

The WolfPack came out of the gate with an early 8-4 lead that would quickly be erased by the Huskies starters. A 23-9 run by the Huskie attack gave them a double digit lead heading into the second quarter. The early lead in the quarter would be the last time the WolfPack held a lead.

Fourth-year guard Lawrence Moore took over in the second, scoring 10 of his game-high 22 points in the frame to give the Huskies a 44-27 lead at the half.

Thompson Rivers would crawl back in the third, third-year Joe Davis scored 10 of his team-high 21 points in the quarter to narrow the Huskie lead down to 13, 63-50. Fifth-year Alex Unruh played closer in the fourth for the Huskies. Unruh scored nine of his 19 points in the final quarter to seal the victory for Saskatchewan, 80-61.

Moore finished with a game-high 22 points, while adding six steals, five assists, two rebounds and two blocks. Unruh provided 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Fourth-year Joseph Barker finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Davis led the WolfPack with 21 points, seven rebounds, an assists and a block. Fourth-year Derek Rhodes finished with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.

The Huskies will travel to Victoria next weekend to take on the Vikes. Thompson Rivers will return home to battle the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
