SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies earned their first victory of the Canada West basketball season, with a 89-66 win over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Friday night on Ron & Jane Centre Court at the PAC.

The win improves Saskatchewan's record to 1-2, while the WolfPack fall to 1-4.

It was the Huskies first action since October 28th, after a bye last week.

It took Saskatchewan under two minutes to build a double-digit lead in the contest, going on a 10-0 run following tipoff. The WolfPack would narrow the lead down to 14-12 before the Huskie offence would string together an effective run on that side of the floor, giving them a 23-17 lead after one quarter.

With the score at 26-25 halfway through the second, another run by the Huskies would give them a comfortable halftime lead of 40-30 after the 14-5 run. The one-point margin reached by the WolfPack would be as close as they would come to taking a lead in the game.

After the third quarter made it 64-49, the Huskies took care of business in the fourth. Fifth-year guard Alex Unruh scored 11 of his 20 points to seal the victory for Saskatchewan.

Fourth-year Lawrence Moore led all scorers with 27 points, while adding four steals, three assists and a rebound. Unruh was close behind with 20 points and a game-high eight rebounds, four assists and a steal of his own.

For the WolfPack, third-year Joe Davis recorded 15 points, three rebounds and an assist. First-year Devin Halcrow chipped in off the bench with 11 points, three rebounds and a steal.

The teams are back in action Saturday night. Tipoff at the PAC scheduled for 8 p.m.
